Designing Animations That Don't Get in the Way

The best interface animation is often the one you don't consciously notice. It confirms what just happened, guides attention to what changed, and gets out of the way.

A simple rule that's served me well: if removing an animation makes the interface feel broken, keep it. If removing it makes no difference, cut it.
